James 2:23 (NIV) - "And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend."
We see the indication that a human (Abraham) could indeed be God's friend. This is recorded in The Bible to show that this is also possible for each of us. Later on in James, this is included at James 4:8 (NWT) "Draw close to God, and he will draw close to you."
In order for God to be with us, we must believe in him and draw close to him. The Apostle John spoke much about the love that God has for us. In his gospel, he says at John 3:16 that God loved the world so much, that he gave his only-begotten son on our behalf. At 1 John 4:8 we learn that the very essence of God is love. We read later on in that chapter at verse 19, that the reason we know how to love, is because God first loved us.
The Bible is full of accounts of God pleading with us to get to know him and to become unified with him. So yes, God will be with us, in fact, he already is with us. The sad reality that the Bible indicates however, is that most of the world has chosen to not be with him.
