yes

I sell jeewelry for a living, a silver dip or polish can be damaging to your gem stones. This is going to sound crazy but it works.

Get a small glass bowl, line it with aluminum foil, shiney side up

Put your silver jewelry on the tin foil

Cover your silver jewelry with baking soda

Pour boling hot water over it until it is completley covered

Do it in a sink, the reaction causes fizzing and it may fizz over the edge of the bowl

What makes a earring tarnish?

There are many things that can make jewelry tarnish. Makeup, humidity, house hold chemicals, etc. By the way.. never come in contact with chlorine. this will ruin jewelry. Sterling silver earrngs will tarnish much quicker than gold or sterling silver. Tarnish can be removed from sterling silver earrings by using a mixture of baking soda and water to make a paste. Rub the paste on the metal then rinse with water and dry.

How can you clean silver jewelry?

There are two levels of clean when talking about sterling silver jewelry. The piece of sterling jewelry could be either simply dirty or tarnished or both. If the piece is only dirty a solution of Mr. Clean, water, and ammonia can be used. Mix half water and Mr. Clean with a small amount of ammonia. This is the same solution many jewelers I know use in their ultrasonic to clean all types of fine jewelry. Allow the jewelry to soak for 15 seconds then rinse with water and dry. You can repeat if need be. More likely than not sterling jewelry is also tarnished. Sterling does tarnish much quicker than gold or platinum. Removing tarnish from sterling silver jewelry is easy. Mix just enough water with baking soda to make a paste and use the paste to rub on the jewelry to remove the tarnish. Rinse with water then dry.

Will 925 18k gold tarnish?

.925 is a silver content. Sterling silver being 92.5% or higher silver content, the remaining alloys are 7.5%. Some alloys may slow tarnish, but there is no alloy that will eliminate the need for polishing. .750 or 18k gold wont tarnish but may change color with age depending on the remaining .250 alloys. If you are asking if 18k gold plating over a .925 sterling silver base will tarnish, the answer will be when the goldplating has worn off exposing the base metal to the elements, It will tarnish like any other silver.
