it depends if your asleep or awake, you can hear hampstes chew through wood but only if your awake, they may wake you up if they are really loud, but they shouldnt be too loud, ino this from personal experiance

∙ 13y agoHamster like to chew on wood. If you do want them to chew on wood, make sure the wood's clean and safe (nail-free and such).
However, if you don't want them chewing on wood, then the better you keep easily-damaged wooden stuff away.

∙ 11y agoactually they chew on wood or bite it. they aren't suppose to eat it. it helps them keep their teeth healthy and not grow through their brains.

Ply wood is man-made and contains lots of glue to stick the wood together. It is dangerous for hamsters for this reason. Hamsters are also allergic to cedar wood so avoid that too. MDF also has glue in and shouldn't be used. If you a trying to make a hamster cage out of wood I don't recommend it because the hamster can chew through it and you cannot clean it well.
