It shouldn't. I have my earlobes pierced 3 times and I stretched my first hole just fine. Stretching the second hole is another story though. I tried to do the second one also and ended up having one of them rip and had to have it stitched back. I took the other one out when I saw it was doing the same thing.
By the way, it's called stretching. Gauge only refers to size.
