If it gets too high (generally 105 is the danger zone), bodily functions like cellular respiration cannot occur properly, and brain damage and death can occur. If you've ever had a high enough fever (or know someone who has), one of the "side-effects" may be a "Febrile seizure", which is a result of the brain misfiring due to the high temperature.
