2003 Taurus 3.0 engine that has a chirping noise coming from a sensor on top of the engine block right in front of the bell housing What is this sensor for and will it hurt to drive it?

That is the CMP or Camshaft Position Sensor. Driving it can and possible WILL hurt the engine eventually. The Squeaking is caused by the gear train being worn out. The CMP in this engine is tied into the oil pump for the vehicle. If the CMP Geartrain was to fail or seize (the reason why its beginning to squeak.) it will stop the oil pump and no oil will be fed to the vehicle. The danger is here, that on this vehicle when the Oil Warning Light comes on, the engine is usually damaged beyond repair. See Related question on how to change your CMP

Will it hurt to run regular gas in a Subaru WRX with turbo?

Probably. Most regular gas has an octane rating of about 87. This adequate for an American V-8 engine, but not for a high performance engine. Prior to the introduction of unleaded gas, Regular was usually about 92 octane, and Supreme was between 95 and 98 octane. To get what used to be Regular gas, you have to buy Supreme now. I disagree. The answer is yes or no, depending upon whether Subaru uses a knock sensor on this engine. The knock sensor will modify the timing of the ignition to adjust for regular gas. You would then lose a little horsepower and mileage in exchange for the ability to use the cheaper gas. You can research this, or find an old school mechanic who can hear pinging or preignition, put a gallon of regular into your WRX empty gas tank. If it pings, fill the tank with premium and don't use regular, if it doesn't ping, use whatever gas gives you the price - mileage - performance compromise you want. You can mix portions of tankfuls and the knock sensor will provide an intermediate timing solution.

What happens if i put regular gas in a 1998 Mazda millenia when it says put premium?

If it doesn't "ping" severely no problem From your question I assume you have the supercharged 2.3 liter. One tank of 87 octance will not hurt it,but DON'T do it on a regular basis. The higher combustion chambers temps that result from knock(this happens because the incorrect fuel is being used) can destroy pistons and even burn holes in them. Usually this isn't a problem because as soon as the knock sensor detects engine knock it tells the ECU to alter ignition and timing maps to correct the problem, this only delays knock from happening, in the end it is better to use the correct fuel which is 91 octane and above.

If I put in unleaded gas into a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta VR6 would that severely damage the car?

No. It requires unleaded. If you put in leaded the only thing it would hurt was the catalytic converter. There is no on-highway leaded gas anymore--it's illegal to sell it. Aviation gasoline is leaded, as is racing fuel, but not road gas. The VR6 has two knock sensors on it. Knock, which is caused by running too low octane, trashes engines, and the knock sensors are there to retard the spark and get rid of knock. You won't hurt the engine by putting regular unleaded in it, but it won't run as well as it could with more-expensive gas in it.
