it might increase the speed of the computer by a little. It is hardly noticable, but you would want to see what files are compressed.
for getting rid of that obscene check box for Compressed files in Disk Cleanup Wizard:FOR WIN 2000 / XP>1. Type Regedit in Start - Run>2. Navigate to>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Volume Caches>3. Open "Compress Old Files" folder>4. Delete all files in this folder>5. Reboot>6. Run Disk Cleanup'Export' the registry entries to a file before you delete them so you can restore this functionality if you ever need to. The export is available in Regedit

Run the disk cleanup wizard. The wizard can be found from start menu Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup Run the wizard and select the drive u want to cleanup If there are compressed old files in ur system, they can be removed at the end of the wizard.
Each disk of your computer has its own compressed old files, which are stored in some portion of it and which gets accumulated day by day.For deleting them from your hard disks so as to free the space, u can use the disk cleanup application.
you go to file or edit and scroll down and hit options, then hit delete.

Compress old files means that some files the windows system thinks you havnt accessed for a while (such as files in 'program files' or 'WINDOWS') gets compressed. this will not move the files to a 'zip' or '7zip' files. itll just be compressed in the folder it was in!!!!!!

To download and load things faster you should put your files into folders and get rid of unwanted or old files and folders. It would also help if you delete old downloads.
If you are updating the iTunes software to the latest version your music library will not be affected.
Go to My Computer>C>Program Files and in there find a folder related to your old anti-virus program. I.e. Norton, Symantec, etc. In this folder there should be another folder called Quarantine. Single click on the quarantine file, hold down shift on your keyboard and hit the delete key. This will permanently delete the folder, including all of the quarantined files inside.
