Your drinks will not turn icy if you leave the drinks on teh top shelf of the airconditor. If anything your drinks will get warm since the motor is hot so you are leaving it on the top of the motor.
When placing a drink on top of the air conditioner, it will not freeze, as the drink would not be enclosed. Many air conditioners are also not cold to the touch on their outside casings.
