It shouldn't. Unless the game is downloaded and contains a virus. If you install it from the disc, the worst problem would be a corrupt install or compatability issues.
For a corrupt install, just un-install and re-install
And to run it you might have to right click, go to properties, compatibility, and change it to win98.
maybe Windows Xp does not support all that is needed for that game or maybe your save files were erased.
