Yes, it will but only within local network.

What is the function of the command - Is?

The function of the ping command is to see whether you can reach a particular machine. Your machine sends a special message, and the other machine replies. Ping is part of the ICMP protocol.Example 1:ping 10.0.0.7This check whether you can reach this specific address.Example 2:ping wiki.answers.comThis only works if DNS is working. If DNS does work, the ping will go ahead testing connectivity to the corresponding IP address. The function of the ping command is to see whether you can reach a particular machine. How do you detect physical disconnection of machine from network?

The best way to do that to use command ping. Start->run->cmd. And in cmd window ping google.com (you can ping other websites also, but some of them dont' respond, google does). Ping command doesn't garantee that you have physical disconnection but it will tell you have access to network or you don't. PS It will work only in case if your firewall was configurated in a right way.

Do I have to use a gateway battery with my gateway laptop?

Gateway products often utilize unusual sizes of hardware to make sure you have to go through them to get replacement parts. Another Gateway battery is guaranteed to work, but if you can find another that is the same dimensions it should work just as well.

What is mean of ping and what is mean of ttl and times?

Ping is a small tool that you can find in a command prompt of any windows machine. It is invaluable when it comes to networks and networking. If there is any one tool you couldn't work without, its ping. So what does it do. It sends a message to a computer anywhere on the network/internet, and if the computer is connected you will get a response. If the computer is not connected to the network/internet you wont get a response. TTL is its 'Time to live'. Say there is a computer on the other side of the network. For the ping to reach it, it might have to go through a router, then through a server and then onto another router and then it gets to the destination. If this is the case it needs 4 hops, one hop for each previously mentioned device. Now if i say i only want the TTL to be 3. That means it will only get to the third hop and that's it. If I say I want the TTL to be 6 then it will get there- because it only takes 4 hops to get to the machine. Usually for most users, you'd be better off leaving the TTL field alone.

Demonstrate to me what steps you might use to troubleshoot connecting another computer on the network?

To troubleshoot connecting another computer on the network, a bottom's up approach is best, starting at layer 1... 1. Check the physical layer. If you are hard connected, the lights on the RJ-45 connector should be blinking. If you are WiFi connected, make sure you are properly authenticating to your WiFi access point. Make sure the driver for the adapter is properly installed and that Device Manager is not reporting it as in trouble or disabled. 2. Check IP assignment. Run ipconfig /all (from a command prompt) and verify that an address is set. There should also be a default gateway, a subnet mask, and at least one DNS server. It also helps to have a DNS suffix (domain). If the computer is statically assigned, instead of dynamic with DHCP, ensure that these items are set correctly per your network administrator. 3. Check ICMP routing. Do a ping locahost, ping your IP address, ping your default gateway, ping your DNS server, and ping some pingable server, such as www.yahoo.com (69.147.76.15). Note that not every gateway responds to ICMP, so you might not get responses from various hosts. Sometimes you can use tracert (or traceroute on unix) to do the same thing, which will show you the ICMP responses of each hop along the way. 4. Check DNS resolution. Do an nslookup on various sites, such as www.yahoo.com or some server within your organization. Note that nslookup does not do domain substitution, so you must be fully qualified, such as myserver.mydomain.com instead of just myserver. 5. If a site supports it, try to access it with a high level protocol such as FTP or SMTP/POP3. You can do an ftp ftp.microsoft.com, or telnet somepop3server.com 25 (or 110) to check eMail connection. Getting a response is enough - just terminate the connection. 6. If the above does not work, you need to troubleshoot deeper. If you don't know what to do, you will need to get a professional.

USB wireless adapter will not stay connected to network Help please?

I was having the same problem, try changing your routers wireless channel. To do this you will need to get your default gateway so you can log on to your router. Go to command prompt on your computer and type in ipconfig it should come up with some numbers, find the one that says default gateway (123.456.7.8) and type it in your browser of choice. It should ask for a Username and Password, usually default is username: admin password: password. Once logged on go to wireless settings and just change your channel. I did this because of interference with my wireless channel. This worked for me and maybe it will work for you.
