Urban Legend. Powerlines do not cause heart attacks. Story first circulated in Columiba, SC (1982) by numerous housewives writing their local newspaper demanding action. The story made national headlines for a short time but with a humorous twist - that the wives "nagging" caused their husbands to have heart attacks and not the power lines. The story disappeared over time but resurfaces from time to time. Similar stories of cancer and other ailments also circulated concerning power lines during the late 70's and early 80's. All were debunked. Primary motivation behind these claims were liability lawsuits with the Power companies.
