A PS3 will play DVDs that I have burned on my Media Center Computer and upgrade them to near HD quality. It will also play rented and purchased movies that are on Blu-ray or DVD.
No. It has to be replaced.
USB smart upgrade
The first DVD vidio players hit the market in the US in 1997. the first DVD players cost over $1000.
easy to upgrade
does hd DVD play on PS3Sorry no, they have to be "blu ray" a Regular DVD will play at near HD quality when played through the PS3 to an HDMI connected HDTV.
it already can
I purchased this movie for an upgrade to my dvd. It is not a great film, but it is a cute movie and I have always enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure. But this Blu-ray is a very poor transfer. Detail gets lost, colors sometimes pop, sometimes are washed out. The sound isn't what you would expect either. I had to keep adjusting the volume. If you already own the dvd, I would say to keep it and not do the "upgrade" since the Bd looks like an upconverted dvd anyway. I now know to read reviews before thinking every Blu-ray will be an upgrade.
The PS3 when connected to a HDTV with a HDMI cable will upgrade the DVD to near 1080p quality and works so much better than my old Sony DVD VCR recorder that I gave it away. It plays the TV shows that I record on my Media Center computer and then Burn on DVDs. The picture is the best it ever looks, plus the PS3 is also a Blue Ray Disc player
