As of July 20th 2011, CM Punk was the WWE Champion. He refused to Renew his contract with the WWE which ended as of 17th July 2011 and left the WWE. A new WWE champion was crowned on the WWE Raw episode on July 25th in Rey Mysterio and John Cena won the title the same day from Mysterio. So, as of 20th, though Cena wasn't part of WWE, he was still the WWE champion.
