The stored code (pending code) does not affect the cars operation but if there is a problem with the vehicle then it is sure that it will affect the car's performance.
The ECM stores the fault codes that it is programmed to do so even if it happened once during the operation. there is definitely a problem on the vehicle if the check engine light is on continuously or intermittently during the operation
