Have the computer checked for stored codes. This will give a clue as to which sensor is triggering the "check engine" light. Many auto parts stores will check the codes for you at no charge.

This mite mean you have a bad timing problem... there should be 2 adjustment bolts on the distributor in the front of the engine.. losen those slightly when the car is running and slowly turn the distributor clockwise until the engine sounds to be running better
