No, there never has been a V6 Corvette The 1953 through '55 model years had inline 6-cylinder engines. V8 engines (265 cu. in.) were an option for 1955. From 1956 through today, all Corvettes have had various V8 engines from the factory.
On the gasoline engines it is behind the passenger side cylinder head, through the bell housing. Steam engine: external combustion (the fuel is burnt in the boiler and the steam led through pipes etc to the power cylinder(s). Diesel (and petrol and gas): internal combustion - the fuel is burnt in the cylinder. Otherwise they are all Heat Engines.
