Will the red dead redemption series go on?

The game is not part of a series even though there was a Red Dead Revolver it is not considered the second in a series and instead a spiritual successor. A spiritual successor to a work of fiction which does not directly build upon the storyline established by a previous work. The Undead Nightmare DLC, which was also released as a standalone game was actually an add on to the original game also sold on it's own game disc. There has not been an announcement except that in July 2012 Rockstar said "we don't always rush to make sequels but that does not mean that we won't get to them eventually. Stay tuned for further announcements about the future of the Red Dead series."
