Think about this for a minute... First off, when the Earth becomes really close to running out of food, the rich will provide themselves with enough to survive for a long time. The rest of us will suffer and many of us will die off. This will result in a major decline in the human population. There is also a huge chance that some humans will even turn cannibalistic during this dark time. Then when the population stops declining so much and balances out, The remaining survivors will find ways to continue producing their food. On the contrary, a disaster like this has to happen in order for the human population to live on. Because, yeah many of us will go, but it is the few survivors that will make sure the future human population will continue to live on for many years to come. Think of Earth as a drug addict with a high tolerance. The higher the population develops, the higher earth's tolerance develops. Earth is just a junkie that is becoming more and more impatient with its tolerance and you know what this will eventually lead to.. Cleansing of itself in order to build a lower tolerance. Ultimately, we just have to see what happens. I'm pretty sure we will find new ways to mass produce more food (stem cell/ cloning) when we see signs of trouble.
P.S. Think Food Stamps lol
