A release in the summer of 2014 was considered. In August 2012, it was reported that Warner Bros. was eyeing Ben Affleck to direct the film. However Affleck's representatives indicated that he passed on the offer. The studio are now eyeing The Wachowskis, Zack Snyder, Brett Ratner, Ruben Fleischer and McG to direct the film.
