Yes, But you will have to move the rear transmission cross member and more then likely have to change the drive-shaft. It would help alot to know what year and model it is. That would have alot to do with your modifying that you would have to do.
measure the size of the output shaft to the rear pinion seal at the differentials yoke. (were the ujoint on the driveshaft meets) I've had two drive shafts altered at a local machine shop for about 200 dollars. im sure the spline count on the 400 transmissions output shaft will match the rear for its particular application is on GM made vehicles.
also keep in mind anytime you would want to change a transmission that it has a bellhousing (where trans meets and then connects to the rear main of engine) that will bolt up to the back of the block.

You can substitute a 400 for a 350. Get one with the same length tailshaft as the 350 you are replacing. You'll need the correct driveshaft yoke, and the kickdown is different.
