Psychiatrists don't hospitalise just because you have suicidal thoughts. Being violent, abusive, unmanageable at home and need for chemical or physical restraint are some reasons hospitalization is necessary.

∙ 12y agoHospitalization is not required for the treatment. Psychiatrist will not send you to hospital. Thoughts of suicide, with feelings of sadness and fatigue persisting for over two weeks suggest presence of depressive disorder. The other symptoms that may be present are helplessness, hopelessness, worthlessness often accompanied by anxiety and lassitude. There may be increased or decreased sleep.
