Depends on why and what type of steroids you are taking. Persons who take them to improve their Asthma may need to take them long term. If you are taking them for pain and inflamation, such as in Arthritis, then you will be getting periodic injections or short term treatments. If you have had some sort of transplant, you may need to take steroids for the rest of your life, to prevent tissue rejection. If you are taking steroids to enhance your body-building or your performance in sports, you won't be taking them too long. You will develop all kinds of health problems and you will ultimately die.
