Will your Syrian hamster kill your fancy hamster?
'Fancy' hamsters are just Syrian hamsters with interesting fur.
Syrian hamsters are solitary creatures, and will fight against another. Do not put them together.
Syrian hamsters are territorial and will most likely kill your Chinese hamster, so no.
If they are Syrian, yes
The correct name for a pet hamster (not including the dwarf varieties) is a Syrian, or Golden Hamster. There are many unofficial names for the species, some refer to colouration, 'black bear hamster' for example. Some refer to fur style, like 'teddy bear hamster', or a mixture, 'fancy hamster'. However none of these are actual species in of themselves, they are all Syrian Hamsters.
Depends what you mean by 'type'. If you mean can a Syrian Hamster mate with a 'teddy bear', 'black bear', 'fancy' hamster, etc, then all these names are simply variants of the Syrian, and are different species. Therefore they can all freely breed together. A syrian hamster though cannot be bred with dwarf hamsters, or European hamsters, these are different species.
NO!! And DO NOT try! A Teddy Bear is a Syrian hamster and a Chinese is a dwarf hamster. They will KILL EACH OTHER.

Fancy hamsters and Teddybear hamsters are both Syrian hamsters. So their off-spring will look like a mix between the two. Some may have long hair, other may have short.

A golden and fancy hamster are exactly the same kind of hamster, just pet shops give them fancy names to make them sound more specialized so people buy them. They are actually called Syrian hamsters. No, Syrian hamsters must be housed alone when they get to be 9 weeks old and would definitely kill and even eat any other hamster with them, especially a dwarf. Dwarf hamsters can often be kept in groups however.
If you are a beginner, consider adopting dwarf or Syrian hamsters. They are the easiest to take care of and they are quite cute ! If you have taken care of a hamster before, and you are responsible, you can accept the challenge of taking care of a fancy hamster. A fancy hamster has long fur and you need to comb it every other day and occasionally cut it's hair! If you feel responsible enough… Read More
