Your piercings can get infected at any time (clean them often) but taking the earring out only 2 weeks after your ears were pierced will certainly guarantee, if left out for too long, that the hole will close back up and start healing itself. You should be fine if you need to take it out for a work shift and if it does start closing it's only a thin layer of skin that needs to be penetrated, if you catch it within a few days or so. I did it many times when I was a teenager.
