My hair thinned out a lot after taking prednisone for about 6 months. I took 25 mg for 2 weeks and then reduced. Its been 4 months since I stopped the prednisone and my hair has almost grown back. I still have a sort of bald spot and I hope this will grow.
There are a lot of side effects with prednisone and this is why some people call the drug, the devils drug.
If your lucky enough not to have to continue with this drug, count yourself lucky.

Be careful coloring or chemically treating your hair while on any steroid especially prednisone or its affiliates. Everything you eat, etc. will go through your hair, I would try using a clarifying shampoo once a week, and if on a budget use infusium repair/stage 1 shampoo and get a deep conditioning one to two times a week on your hair. If your not on a budget I would suggest Nioxin I have found that Nioxin is a wonderful product, but that only using the shampoo/conditioner may not be fully effective for everyone. When combined with the follicle stimulator everyday it should grow your hair back within 3 months, since normal hair only grows at 1/2 inch per month. It is often recommended to cancer patients during chemo, it can get expensive but depending on the hair thinning/loss or change in the hair it may be worth it.
