WAP, or Wireless Access Point
If you mean, "What is a wireless LAN?" The answer is simple. A wireless LAN is a network that connects multiple computers, gaming consoles, and gaming devices and allows them to connect to the internet, but only if they are capable of using wireless. Wireless LAN is achieved by using a wireless router. LAN stands for Local Area Network.
A wireless LAN does not need wires to connect; therefore, devices using a WLAN can be very mobile and are not constrained by physical wiring.
Try this setup: Cable/Dsl Modem---->Wireless router---->wireless devices, desktop.
It has no wireless hardware inside, so cannot connect to a LAN.

Wireless routers typically have 5 LAN ports on the back. 1 is for internet connection and is typically labeled "Internet". 4 others you can use to connect your devices.
No. The USB connection will be used to pass the data, not a LAN card.
