Pein's invasion of Konoha changed his mind though and Nagato, as the tenth path of Pein brought everyone that he had killed back to life. After that Madarra took over as head of the Akatsuki organization. It was revealed that Madarra was using the members of Akatsuki as pawns to collect the bijuu to combine them to create the original ten tailed beast, sage of the six paths, for himself.

Why akatsuki want Naruto?
They're powerful and supposedly evil. What more do most anime/manga fans need? A lot of people like the bad guys as long as they're cool. Itachi has a lot of fangirls, so does Deidara, and probably Sasori does, too. Hidan might have a few, but I don't know. My friend is more or less a Sasori fangirl ^_^ I prefer Suna over Akatsuki, but people like Akatsuki because it's powerful and evil.
