Pein's invasion of Konoha changed his mind though and Nagato, as the tenth path of Pein brought everyone that he had killed back to life. After that Madarra took over as head of the Akatsuki organization. It was revealed that Madarra was using the members of Akatsuki as pawns to collect the bijuu to combine them to create the original ten tailed beast, sage of the six paths, for himself.
