The word equation would be something like "reactant A plus oxygen is combusted to produce products B and C etc. It really depends on what is being burned. For example, if a hydrocarbon is being burned, the word equation would be "the hydrocarbon reacts with excess oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water.

Burning is a combustion reaction. One example is burning (combustion) of methane (CH4).

CH4(g) + 2O2(g) --> CO2(g) + 2H2O(g)

One molecule of methane gas plus two molecules of oxygen gas (dioxygen) yield one molecule of carbon dioxide gas and two molecules of water vapor (gas).

A more realistic word equation would use moles instead of molecules.

One mole of methane gas plus two moles of oxygen gas (dioxygen) yield one mole of carbon dioxide gas and two moles of water vapor (gas).
