ONE. Yeah, the world record number of eggs laid by an individual hen in a single 24 hour period is one. If anyone could come up with a breed of hen that could do better they would be very very rich. It takes 24 hours for an egg to form within the oviduct of a chicken. From the time the ovary drops an ovum and it travels through the chickens system forming yolk, albumen and shell, at least 24 hours have passed. Breeders have been working to increase the egg production rate of chickens for many years and so far, no-one has come up with a chicken that can do better than one egg per day (24 hours).
