Prior to the start of WW I, Filipino people were struggling for independence from American control. As the war started Filipinos suspended their freedom struggle and supported USA against Germany. In 1917 Philippines Assembly approved creation of a 25000 strong Philippine National Guard which joined American Expeditionary Forces to fight the war. After the war Filipinos restarted their freedom struggle.
