The letter may request additional supporting documentation, in which case you should provide that. In the meantime, they're allowed to hold your refund for up to 45 days while they check into it.You should eventually receive the refund you are due, which may or may not be the refund you thought you were getting. A 4464C letter basically says that the IRS is holding onto your refund while they investigate your return more thoroughly. If the investigation shows that you should get a smaller refund or that you actually owe the IRS money, then you'll get a smaller refund or none at all. Many people may simply assume that they are not eligible for a tax refund, or they may underestimate how much of a refund they are due. Tax firms, accountants and online tax software can all aid in finding every single refund for which one is eligible. For some, this tax software may even be free. Some companies will let people whose income falls under a certain level use their tax software at no cost. Even for those who must pay, however, using software or a professional can be worthwhile, resulting in refunds and savings that are greater than the cost of the service. Furthermore, the cost of having one's taxes prepared or of tax software can be written off on the following year's refund. Once one knows how much of a refund one is getting, one should plan what to do with the refund. Even though one is actually getting money that one has paid out during the previous year, getting a refund can feel like receiving a lump sum for no effort. The temptation is to blow the money on a treat like a nice meal out, a vacation or an electronic item. A better approach, however, is to use the refund to pay off any outstanding debts. If no debts are outstanding, the refund can go into savings or a retirement account. It's tempting to think of a refund as an exciting windfall, but people should keep in mind that they've actually given the government an interest-free loan. For an entire year, the government has had that portion of their income and is only now returning it. With this in mind, people who find they are getting particularly large tax refunds should look into redoing their W-2 forms at a higher withholding rate. As exciting as the refund may be, it doesn't make good financial sense to let anyone hold onto one's money without penalty, and a better plan of financial management will ensure that future refunds are much lower.
Sure. The refund is only the amount you estimtaed as hence made as ocver paid, Had your estimate been more accurate or you had paid less then that amount, then the additional would have been avialable to pay creditors. You could have had more witheld, should that mean they should get less? Don't you think you should pay everyone as much as you can can o what you promised to paY? Its not exactly your refund....its money you put on deposit someplace else, and it should be used to pay those you promised it to.
