The Chuck Norris movies certainly helped! Karate Kid was a big help as well. There are many movies that drew people into martial arts in general, which includes karate. The films of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Steven Seagal would be among the most popular.
I would say karate but it is all a matter of opinion.!! :)
Of course not! That would be assault and you would go to jail! Karate is for defense, not aggression.
In normal situations karate is a noun and would be lower case. However, when coupled with a specific style it becomes a proper noun. I study karate. He has a black belt in karate. I study Shido Kan Karate. He has black belt in Shitokan Karate.
Self Defense
The answer is something that you will have to decide for yourself. Which one do you like the most and are willing to study? I have a very talented 6' 6" karateka that I have the honor of leanring with.
That would be none, as Karate is not an Olympic sport. Taekwondo is in the Olympics.

Taylor, as a kid, loved karate. Karate was his first love. During Taylor's recesses, he would spend all his recess time every recess, practicing karate. He was in Jr. High then. He probably still loves to do karate and practice it.
