Yes, one way you can ckeck if the motor is getting fuel is to spray a squirt of stater fluid into the carb then turn over the engine. If it fires over with starter fluid but not without, the engine probaly not getting fuel. Also smell the tailpipe after turning it over if it smells like gas motor my be flooded.

bad fuel filter
The light should be on before starting, and for 3 seconds after starting, as a bulb check.
yes it Can I suggest you take the filter out and clean it thoroughly or buy another
Most definitely.
It COULD, but more likely it would just cause it to run poorly once it starts.
Bad fuel pump? check the fuel filter first you would be surprised how many problems a clogged filter can cause
Yes...that is one of the primary reasons an electric fuel pump goes out.
usually your igintion cylinder us starting to wear out
A bad starter can cause a Mercury Grand Marquis to not start. A bad alternator or a problem with the security system can be the cause for the car not starting.
Water in the fuel will keep it from starting.
A partially clogged fuel filter will cause hard starting, stalling, and loss of power. It will also cause the fuel pump to overheat and self destruct.
