Since crabs and barnacles belong to the same evolutionary lineage, one would expect their DNA to be more similar. However, convergent evolution could result in homoplasies that would cause a barnacle to have DNA more similar to that of a limpet than a crab.
Barnacles and Crabs are both Crustaceans, while limpets are Molluscs - so I would assume that a barnacle's DNA would be more similar to a crab's.
Barnacles are crustaceans, and therefore more closely related to crabs than to mollusks like limpets. The apparent similar morphology of barnacles and limpets is a result of convergent evolution. It does not necessarily require DNA (i.e., similar genotype) in order to produce similar phenotype (physical characteristics).

Barnacles on a crab's shell improve its toughness, while the barnacles (normally lacking motility) are able to visit more than one location to obtain food, and may even feed on the crab's prey. Some barnacles, however, can cause damage or sterility in some species of crabs.

The horseshoe crab is a consumer, because they use food to get energy.
Limpets are herbivores that feed on algae. They are part of the food chain where they are eaten by predators such as crabs, sea stars, and birds. Limpets also play a role in nutrient cycling and energy transfer within the intertidal ecosystem.
I had never been served crab legs with barnacles.... until today. According to our server at Red Lobster they are "harmless" and don't compromise the flavor... which made no difference to me as they looked DISGUSTING and I immediately lost my appetite for crab. It at the very least did not look palatable and I am shocked that they were okay with serving a plate full of these critters! It really gave me the heebie jeebies and I won't be eating crab or at Red Lobster anytime soon!
Blue crabs usually eat clams, oysters, and mussels though they prefer freshly dead or freshly caught food. They do not eat barnacles but they are often found on the crab.
Yes, the crab uses the barnacles as protection and sometimes camoflauge
