IV / Feeding tubes are really only used for very serious cases of anorexia for in-patient hospital treatments. They help restore a healthy weight and nutrition to an anorexia. Therapy is what really "helps" / "cures" the mental illness, though.
One common symptom associated with anorexia nervosa is severe weight loss or being significantly underweight.

If you are skinny when you look at yourself in the mirror you look super fat,and you star getting obssed and eating less then
Since anorexia nervosa deprives the body of the food and nutrients it needs, the body is not receiving those essential nutrients vital to normal body function. (such as calcium not being able to flow to muscles and make them contract, thus putting the muscles at risk of atrophy because of a lack of use) If the body can not function normally, then there is something wrong with homeostasis.
Generally, it is anorexia nervosa. However, someone does not necessarily have to be below weight to have anorexic tendencies, which can be just as dangerous as someone extremely emaciated. These people would be diagnosed as EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified), and need the same psychotherapies as someone with anorexia, without the hospitalization.Anorexia, and sometimes bulimia.
The common medical symptom of loss of appetite is called "anorexia".This is often confused by some people's use of the word "Anorexia" to mean Anorexia Nervosa, which is a diagnosed condition with components requiring intervention in both medical and psychological disciplines. Sometimes you must determine by context which is being referenced.Examples:"Doctor, I'm just not feeling well, I'm not hungry and I get tired easily," said the woman."How long have you had this anorexia, and have you also had weight loss?" asked the doctor."My sister has finally accepted treatment for her Anorexia at a specialized treatment center for Anorexics, she is down to 88 pounds now.""Our facility is specialized in the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa.""Some of the early symptoms of clinical depression are: lack of interest in normal activities, hypersomnolence, anorexia (or increased appetite and binging), fatigue, and inattention to appearance and hygiene.""Poor Bob was diagnosed with cancer. The first sign he had of anything wrong was when he began losing weight due to severe anorexia and nausea."See the link below for more information about the symptom of anorexia and about the condition of Anorexia Nervosa.
Obesity means having too much body fat. It is not the same as being overweight, which means weighing too much. A person may be overweight from extra muscle, bone, or water, as well as from having too much fat. Both terms mean that a person's weight is higher than what is thought to be healthy for his or her height.Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by excessive food restriction and irrational fear of gaining weight, and a distorted body self-perception. It typically involves excessive weight loss. Anorexia nervosa usually develops during adolescence and early adulthood.[1] Due to the fear of gaining weight, people with this disorder restrict the amount of food they consume. This restriction of food intake causes metabolic and hormonal disorders.[2] Outside of medical literature, the terms anorexia nervosa and anorexia are often used interchangeably; however, anorexia is simply a medical term for lack of appetite. However, people with anorexia nervosa do not lose their appetites.[3]
Anorexia seems to be on the increaes in terms of the number of cases since the 1960s or so. This could be due to the spread of more media (think - more tv shows, the modeling industry grew, more fashion magazine, ect.). Also, it could be that more cases were just being recognized and reported.
Most of the health consequences will more than likely be mental, since Anorexia is a disease of the mind, that is shown through the physical side effects. You're teeth won't go bad from the stomach acid like when someone is bulimic and puking constantly, but you'll probably have last effects, like thinking about going back to being anorexic, up to years after you're healthy again. This is different for everyone though.
To a certain extent - yes - anorexia nervosa will follow a person for a life time. The person who is trying to recover from it will feel fat at first and after that they might not realize whenever they start gaining more weight to the point of being chubby and then one day they look in the mirror and think "my God, I am an absolute cow!" That will set off the hardcore diet again. So the trick is to make sure that this person can be truly okay with themselves and the way they look before reintroducing them to the stresses of what they came from.
True. Many individuals with anorexia nervosa have a distorted body image, often perceiving themselves as overweight or larger than they actually are, despite being underweight. This distortion can lead to an intense fear of gaining weight and a strong desire to lose more, further exacerbating the disorder.
