No. Like water ethyl alcohol is a polar solvent and will not dissolve most nonpolar solutes such as oil.
yes
Not very good in methanol and ethanol.
because oil is nonpolar and water is polar
No. Oil will dissolve in fatty (hydrophobic) liquids, not in hydrophilics like water.

Grease
Ammonia dissolves better in motor oil than in vegetable oil because motor oil is more immiscible than vegetable oil. Also, motor oil molecules are more non-polar than vegetable oil.
Wax is not soluble in alcohol but is partially soluble in kerosene oil.
Grease
Water and oil do not mix. To dissolve stains, you have to use the principal of like dissolves like. An oil or alcohol will dissolve greasy stains.

Yes, it's good that oil does not mix well with or dissolve in water. A couple reasons off the top of my head include:If oil could mix with water, humans could accidentally drink, say, motor oil and become sick or die. We'd have more "poisoning from oil".Oil in water would lose its "lubricant" properties. We wouldn't be able to run machines. Water would encourage rust of metals. Our bodies would not benefit from the lubrication of other types of oil, like Olive Oil.
