In theory, as long as the liquid does not contain any substance harmful to the plant, yes, it should be able to grow. That is assuming that the other liquid used contains water, like lemonade, milk, or coffee. Some gardening stores sell "plant food" which contains nutrients that are nourishing for the plants, but if you don't want to do that, then the best choice would be water.
