The size of the rims should have little effect on your transmission, if any. Weight may be an issue; if the 26's are far heavier than the stock rims, then the engine/transmission would need to work a little harder to turn them over, especially from a dead-start and when shifting from 1st to 2nd. After that, the momentum would mean that there would be little to no stress on the transmission. The greater issue you will run into is brake wear. I truly cannot think of any "car" that will accept 26 inch rims (at least not without MAJOR customization to wheel wells, struts, shocks, etc.), but in any case, there is a good chance that the stock brakes wouldn't even come close to having enough stopping power to effectively and economically bring the vehicle to a stop. This would be due to the added weight of the rims themselves, as well as the greater centrifugal force (momentum) that will want to keep those monsters spinning. For instance, if you are thinking of jumping from a 16-17 inch stock rim all the way up to a 26 inch, then you should first strongly consider doing some homework, and find out just what it is going to take to, A)get those rims to fit, first and foremost, and B)get them to stop safely.
