your filter has alot to do with the efficiency of you a/c unit working properly, if you think it needs changed then change it, in AZ the filter in the summer is only good for about 3 weeks, if after changing your filter it is not running cooler, which will be noticeable soon after changing it then call sevice tech to check freon level

The only reference I can find in the manual calls it an "Air intake hose" I really thought the term "Duct" would have been appropriate, but that's just me.
