Well it depends, if it is a fast death then i would rather die, but if its a slow death maybe not...i would never want to be tortured to death though. Since the result either way is death, most would prefer death now over tortured to death. In real life, tortured persons have sometimes asked "Please just kill me now" if they know they will be killed anyway. But those about to be killed never ask, "Can't you please just torture me a while first so I can live longer?".
