Sophocles was a famous Greek playwright who was born in Attica in rural Greece and later moved to Greece's capital city of Athens.
Greece is a rural region go Greece hellas!!!
Depends on what region of Greece you are in. If you are in Athens, Thessaloniki, or some of the other more populated cities it becomes pretty dense. However rural Greece on the other hand is sparsely populated.
Mmm I would say Britain is more pulluted because of it's high urban population. However Athens as an exception is exceedingly polluted, but London is polluted 2. I think both Cities have improved vastly though. But because Greece is much more rural, I would say it is less polluted.

According to City Data, the population of Athens, Texas, in 2012 was 12,846 (90% urban, 10% rural).

2/3rds of Greece's population live in cities (urban)
Athens was a city-state. Therefore Athens was both a state and a city and thus the capital. The broader province of Athens (i.e. the rural areas) was and still is Attica. An equivalent example was the city-state of Corinth or Sparta/Lakonia (both today exist with same borders and names as prefectures of Greece).
Possibly the need for money to buy food and other items rather than bartering or using credit would have marked the effects of capitalism in rural areas.
Today more people live in urban areas rather than in rural areas
Cities in Ancient Greece included Athens, Sparta, and Corinth. These cities were often surrounded by smaller towns and villages that were more rural in nature. The countryside around these urban centers was important for agriculture and provided resources for the city-dwellers.
