Reusable bags can be used again and again, so we don't need a new plastic bag every time we go to the store.

Plastic bags are usually made from oil. The world is gradually running out of oil. Oil also gives off carbon dioxide when it is processed. Plastic bags also take years to decompose so they remain a problem in landfills and rubbish dumps for years, perhaps holding rotten food which decomposes anaerobically, producing methane, another greenhouse gas.
