Does elevation increase or decrease from Mississippi to Colorado?

Colorado is higher in elevation than Mississippi. Colorado contains the central part of the Rocky Mountains, and Colorado's highest point is Mount Elbert, elevation 14,433 feet above sea level. The Rockies, as they are called, are part of the Continental Divide, which is like a rooftop, dividing water and snow that fall on one side of the Rockies from the other side. One side of the Rockies drains water into rivers that reach the Pacific Ocean, and the other drains the water toward the Atlantic Ocean by rivers that reach the Mississippi River, including the State of Mississippi and the Gulf of Mexico.
