'Come stai' is an Italian equivalent of 'How are you?' It's what you ask of someone who's among your close circle of family, friends and peers. It's pronounced 'KOH-meh steye'. The sound 'eye' is similar to the sound of the English noun 'eye'.

'Come sta' is another equivalent. It's asked of someone outside your close, familial and friendly circle. It also is asked of someone who's senior in age or position. It's pronounced 'KOH-meh stah'.
