you can use the ping command. the syntax is open DOS and then type ping ipaddress of the host machine
They are different languages, so you need to use a different word with different syntax to do the same thing. For example, to display the contents of the current directory, the command in MS-DOS is dir, but in UNIX it's ls.
Start -> Run type CMD and hit enter. a black DOS Command prompt will appear. type IPCONFIG and hit enter.
Just execute it.. If it is write it will give you the result else error message..
