Pulau Pinang was hit with a tsunami in the year 2004, with a warning that was issued by the authorities but approximately 52 people died in the incident.
One pf the major warning signs... is the sudden 'disappearance' of the sea - as the water is 'absorbed' into the forthcoming wave. However - there's no real way to get advanced warning of an impending tsunami.
Saturday February 27, 2010. An 8.8 earthquake hit Chile and a Tsunami warning was issued for all of Hawaii. A series of smaller waves up to 6 feet travelled to the islands later in the day. With the early warning, everyone was safely evacuated to higher ground and damage was minimal.

go to the highest spot you can or if your in the middle of the road you should go to the top of the tsunami
Normally there would have been, but the earthquake took out the ability to warn the people.
The tsunami hit because of the earthquake shifted the ground and caused the tsunami.
