If a force F (measured in newtons, N) is applied to move an object a distance d (measured in metres, m) in the direction of the line of force, the work done W (measured in joules, J) is given by:

W = F d

Crucially, d is the distance moved in the direction of the line of force. Assuming the force is applied parallel to the ramp:

W = 425 N x 2 m

= 850 J

How is a net force determined if two students moving a piano exert force in the same direction?

If the students are standing side by side pushing the piano across the floor, their forces add. If the students are opposite each other and one is pushing and one is pulling, their forces still add. If the students are strong enough to lift the piano and carry it, their combined force is equal to the weight of the piano.

A ramp is 30 meters long and 5 meters high 200 newtons of force must be applied by the mover to push a 1000 newton piano up the ramp?

What is the amount of work accomplished by the ramp? - 5000 joules What is the amount of work done by the mover? - 6000 joules What is the efficiency of the ramp? - 83%

What is the mechanical advantage of a ramp if you and two friends apply a force of 425 N to push a piano up a 2.0m long ramp?

-- angle the ramp makes with the ground -- weight of the piano -- height above ground at the top of the ramp -- horizontal distance between the beginning and end of the ramp If the question included any one of these pieces of information, an answer could be calculated. But with only the information given, it can't be.

A sentence for net force?

The net force for the falling piano was 30 N.

How much power would a person use to move a piano 10 meters in seconds using a force of 100 newtons?

A force of 100 newtons acting through a distance of 10 metersresults in 1,000 joules of energy transferred.If it all takes place in 10 seconds then the average rate of energytransfer (power) during that interval is(1,000/10) = 100 joules per second = 100 watts.

What is a sentence for net force?

Net force is the total force acting on a body You can also use "the total net force on the piano was about 45 N". Both of these sentences work.

How long would it take a 7.5 kW motor to raise a 500 kg piano to an apartment window 1000 meters above the ground?

The motor provides energy at the rate of 7500 Joules each second. The energy needed to raise the piano = mass of the piano x acceleration due to gravity x height = 500 x 9.81 x 1000 = 4.905 x 106 Joules time taken = 4.905 x 106 / 7500 = 654 seconds So, it would take around 11 minutes.

If a 2000 N force is applied to move a piano but the piano doesn't move how much work was performed on the piano?

For work to be done the piano has to be moved. As W = F x d and if distance (d) is zero then F x d = 0 Thus if piano doesn't move NO WORK WAS DONE.
