Many cultures have different names for the phenomenon of a streak of light in the sky caused when a space rock hits the Earth's atmosphere and burns up as it falls. Some call it a "falling star", and some call it a "shooting star". The proper scientific term is "meteor".
If the object survives the fall to Earth, it is called a "meteorite".
meteor
in the sky
A piece of space debris burning up in the atmosphere creating a streak of light across the sky that looks like a star falling... or shooting, as it were.
None of the planets are called shooting stars. Shooting stars are actually meteoroids that burn up as they enter Earth's atmosphere, creating a streak of light in the sky.
Sirius also known as the dog star is the brightest star in the sky.
A meteor
A wishing well, or a shooting star or the first star in the sky at night
A meteor that's what it is
Shooting stars, also known as meteors, cannot go backwards. They streak across the sky in a forward direction due to the Earth's movement through space and the meteoroid's velocity.
It is not. It may be called the Morning Star or Evening Star, as the brightest star is the early evening or morning, but not "shooting star". That term is used for meteors that burn up when entering the atmosphere, leaving a streak of light in the sky.
a volcanic bomb is a shooting star kinda thing at it shoots into the sky and burns out
The shooting star shot beautifully across the sky
