Saying sorry in Russian depends on the situation at hand. There are multiple ways of saying it.
If you are asking for a persons pardon because you've done something silly or stupid, you then say 'Прошу прощения' which is pronouced 'Pra-shU-pra-schE-ni-ya' or simply 'Простите' which is simply pronounced 'Pra-stEE-te'.
OR
If you are looking for the words for expressing your sympathy or condolence with somebody then you say 'Мне очень жаль' which is pronounced 'mnE-Ochen-zhAl'
