Well, there could be a short between the ign. to the solenoid, or, bad contact. The contact in the ign. could be faulty . I would check the ign. first.
your battery is dead or the starter solenoid
crank sencer When I had the same problem it was the starter solenoid. It is built on the starter so you have to replace both. After the starter/solenoid was replaced I had no more problems. P.S. If you take it to most major auto parts places they can check the starter but not the solenoid mine showed good but after I replaced it I never had that problem again.
Check your ingnition cylinder ...
it could be a variate of things starter is bad, starter solenoid is bad, battery cable is bad, ground is bad, ignition is bad, there is really to many things to list as to why one wont crank with new battery but check these things first there not to hard to check and probably the problem.
your ignition switch or the starter solenoid is bad try jumping the solenoid instead of the starter, if this does not work, then change solenoid
tighten the nut from the starter to the solenoid
Small terminal on starter solenoid- if Ford product and have 2 smaller terminals - pick either - disregard 2nd small terminal
If you battery has plenty of power, either faulty contacts in ignition switch or starter motor, or faulty starter motor.
Did you put the small solenoid wire on the correct small terminal?
Could be starter solenoid - Follow + battery cable should connect to solenoid Ignition swtich?? Wiring ok from battery? Check all the grounds to engine and chassis... peek at a manual for a diagram// See if your local library has a professional shop manual to look at for free... dave Most likely the ignition/key switch. Very common problem with ION. Jim
Battery cables could be loose, battery could be bad, starter could be bad, starter solenoid could be bad, ignition switch could be bad. Turn on the headlights and try to crank the engine. If the headlights dim or go out look at the cables or battery. If they stay bright look at starter, solenoid or ignition switch. The neutral safety switch or clutch petal switch could do it too.
If a 1997 Nissan Maxima will crank but will not start, there could be a problem with the fuel pump. Another possibility is an issue with the ignition switch.
